Eligibility for NRAS ( National Rent Affordability Scheme ) Housing

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate they can successfully maintain a rental tenancy in a medium density environment
  • Applicants must be able to afford the rent and an initial bond of 4 weeks rent
  • People should be on a low income, please refer to “am I eligible ?
  • Be current residents of South Australia and be able to show proof of income and proof of identification
  • Have a connection to the local area (work, study, living arrangements or family)
  • Not own residential property
  • Not have assets above $313,250 (single) or $389,500 (couple)

How to apply:

  1. Check you meet the above criteria
  2. Register your interest on line
  3. If advised there is an appropriate vacancy, complete Unity’s affordable housing application form and submit it to Unity Office.
  4. Attach proof of income, identification and any references

Information for applicants:

  • Household income will be reviewed every year to ensure tenants still meet the income and assets eligibility criteria
  • Leases are for 12 months
  • Rents are set slightly below 80% of market rent and will be reviewed every year
  • Receipt of your application does not constitute any agreement by Unity to provide housing and is not an application for any other housing programs.
  • We will let you know whether your application has been accepted or otherwise within 14 days.

Am I eligible ?

To be eligible for affordable housing you must fall within certain income brackets, according to whether or not your household includes a sole parent. The gross household income brackets are shown below.

 

If a household does not include a sole parent, income levels can not exceed, (figures correct as at January 2013):

 

(i)   $44,835 the first adult

(ii)  $17,150 for each additional adult

(iii) $14,871 for each child

 

If a household includes a sole parent, income levels can not exceed, (figures correct as at January 2013):

 

(i)   $47,157 the first sole parent

(ii)  $17,150 for each additional adult

(iii) $14,871 for each child
